Dr Dominic Kelly appointed as new charity trustee
A local charity has recently appointed a new trustee to its board to help oversee the charity’s fundraising, make sure it’s well run, and share their experience and expertise to help it grow.
Winchester Hospice, which marks its fifth anniversary of supporting the Winchester community this year, has welcomed Dr Dominic Kelly, a Consultant Cardiologist at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to its board, and he’s keen to support the charity and help the community understand that their patients have a wide range of support requirements.
Dr Kelly qualified as a doctor from Liverpool Medical School in 2000 and holds a first-class degree in pharmacology and a research degree in heart failure. He was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at Hampshire Hospitals in 2013, where his subspecialty interests include heart failure and specialised cardiac devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, and heart failure devices. He leads an integrated heart failure team that works closely with the palliative care team.
Upon his appointment to the charity board, he said: “I’m keen to help spread the message that palliative care is not just about cancer or end-of-life care, but also about improving quality of life and managing symptoms across a wide range of conditions, including those within my own field of cardiology.
“I believe the hospice and palliative care service offers tremendous support to patients with cardiac, respiratory and other diseases, and I hope my involvement will help highlight this message and allow me to give something back to what I consider to be an excellent service.”
Since opening its doors in 2021, the hospice has cared for over 3,000 people and their families. To do this, it relies on charitable income of £750,000 a year from the local community.
Nick Vaughan, Chairman of Winchester Hospice, said: “We are proud to serve this exceptional community, and our trustees, together with our staff, are deeply committed to supporting the continued growth of the charity to ensure its sustainability for many years to come.
“I am delighted to welcome Dominic to the Board at Winchester Hospice. He shares our commitment to increasing local awareness of the hospice’s work and the care it provides to people in our community. We are all very much looking forward to the insight and experience he will bring, and I look forward to working with him in support of this remarkable charity.”
