Volunteer with us

At Winchester Hospice, our volunteers are an incredibly important part of the work we do.

When you become a volunteer, you work alongside our skilled staff members to provide invaluable support, helping us to provide outstanding care to patients and their families.

There are many ways you can get involved with us as a volunteer, including working inside our hospice, in our garden and surrounding grounds or within our Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity team.

Volunteering at Winchester Hospice is incredibly rewarding and is an experience that enables you to meet like-minded others and learn new skills all whilst making a huge difference to our patients, families, staff and visitors.

How you can get involved

Here at Winchester Hospice, we have three areas in which our volunteers support:

  • Volunteering inside our hospice gives you the opportunity to make a real difference to those using our services.

Our wonderful in-hospice volunteers support in many areas of our hospice, including helping out on our reception and providing support to our staff who care for our patients.

  • Our hospice garden design was originally created as part of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2021! Gifted by the Bible Society to our hospice, the design was lifted and re-constructed in our very own grounds to provide a beautiful outdoor space for our patients, staff and visitors to enjoy.

These grounds require lots of care and attention, and our volunteer gardeners generously give up their time to help to maintain them with practical tasks such as watering, putting in bedding plants, keeping gardens free of litter, pruning and more.

Our volunteer gardeners also tend to the grounds in front of our hospice, ensuring the space is kept beautiful all year round.

Volunteering times for this role are very flexible.

  • Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity provides vital funds to support the work we do here at Winchester Hospice. Our fundraising team work throughout the year to generate these funds, and do so with the support of our community.

We have a growing team of brilliant charity volunteers who help out at local events and fates and spread awareness of the work we do within their communities. Some of the recent events our volunteers have been involved in include serving teas and coffees at this year’s The Grange Festival, wrapping Christmas presents at The Brooks Shopping Centre and supporting with a stand at the Alresford Watercress Festival.

Opportunities arise regularly and are shared on an ad-hoc basis with our pool of volunteers. Once you become a charity volunteer, you can offer your time as little or as often as suits you.
