Why your support makes all the difference

By joining Local Hospice Lottery, you’ll be supporting families like Mich and Bob Page.

The pair met while studying at the same university and quickly bonded. On their first date, Bob took Mich for a surprise picnic in Wales and she remembers sharing cucumber sandwiches and a bottle of fizz while thinking ‘this could be the father of my children’.

That moment started a love affair that would last decades and the two set up home in Hampshire where they raised their two daughters and became well known for their family picnics.

Then years ago, the family was hit with a blow when Bob was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Following surgery his recovery was OK but, at a check up some years later, he was diagnosed with Lymphoma.

After several years of treatment and intense periods being cared for in hospital, Bob said he didn’t want any further interventions and the family agreed not to carry on with treatment.

“The doctor mentioned to me that he was going to get Bob into Winchester Hospice as it would be more comfortable for him in his final days and I hadn’t quite realised what a difference it would make until we arrived,” Mich remembers.

From everyone at Winchester Hospice, thank you and good luck!
