Night walk for Winchester Hospice set to light up the city this October
On Saturday 14 October, Winchester residents are invited to dress in purple and light up the night as the city’s first Winchester Purple Night Walk will take place for Winchester Hospice.
The walk promises a fun, vibrant get-together to raise money for the only adult hospice in Winchester, a place where specialist staff provide palliative and end of life care for those with life-limiting illness.
Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity hope to see hundreds of people dressed in purple sporting glow-in-the-dark accessories to illuminate the city’s streets.
Setting off at 6.30pm, walkers will follow a 6km route through south Winchester - starting and finishing at Highcliffe’s All Saints Church.
Those taking part will walk together along the banks of the River Itchen, passing the Hospital of St Cross as well as the Hockley Viaduct near St Catherine’s Hill.
Maddy Thomson, consultant nurse and clinical lead for end of life care at Winchester Hospice and trustee for Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity, says: “We are so excited to be hosting our very own night walk this October to support and raise funds for the all-important service we provide here at Winchester Hospice.
“The evening looks to be incredibly special in so many ways and I invite everyone in and around Winchester to come and join in the fun!”
The walk will form part of the hospice’s celebrations of Hospice Care Week, a yearly campaign led by Hospice UK to celebrate hospice care across the country.
Every year, Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity needs to raise over £500,000 to support the cost of the hospice’s services.
Adults can purchase tickets to the Winchester Purple Night Walk for just £10, whilst children go for only £5! The event also offers a family ticket of two adult and two child entries for £25.
Registration to join the walk is now open - click here to get your ticket or find out more.
