Several local music artists are generously giving up their time to perform at a charity event that will be taking place in the city in a few weeks' time.

Winchester Hospice has announced that, as part of their Purple Night Walk, they will add new features for walkers to enjoy along the way. This includes a variety of light installations as well as, recently announced, live musical performances dotted around the route.

The charity has announced five local artists will be performing at different points throughout the route and performers include folk-pop artist Xander Chappell, indie folk artists Simon Maggs and Chris Bluemel from People Like Us, Violinist Jackie Drew, returning openers Winchester Uke Jam, and singer/songwriter Juliet Howard.

Ahead of the event, singer Juliet Howland said: “I think the walk is such a beautiful event and it’s for such a good cause as well. I know a few people who have been cared for so well by the hospice and I’m looking forward to helping.”

This year’s instalment of the annual event, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday 19 September at 6.30pm, will see hundreds of Winchester locals all dressed in purple taking on a 7km route through the city and surrounding area.

Stephanie Walker, fundraising assistant for the hospice and the organiser of the event, said: “Having live music from local artists is a wonderful way to enhance the experience of the Purple Night Walk. We’ve always had music at the start, but to have beautiful pieces of music performed by local talent as walkers make their way around the course will make it a truly memorable experience. We are incredibly grateful to those performers who have kindly given up their time to play for us.”

Tickets for the Purple Night Walk are available from the hospice’s website and cost just £10 for adults and £5 for children. To further support the care of patients, the charity is also asking those participating to raise £25 in sponsorship to help them care for local people who need their specialist care.
