Tea and cake raises important funds for Winchester Hospice

A local fundraiser has raised over £1,500 to support hospice care for local people through the hosting of tea parties to mark celebrations this year.

Pat Bloor organised two charity Tea @ 3 parties to celebrate Valentine’s Day and mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day and she’s donated all the money raised to Winchester Hospice to support their care of local people.

During her Valentine’s tea party earlier this year, over tea and cake, her guests were invited to take part in a raffle and a guess the weight of the cake competition, helping to raise £655. She then got baking again to celebrate the anniversary of VE Day and, with the donations now all counted, raised a further £925.

Pat said; “When I returned to live in Winchester there was no hospice for those who needed it and funds were being sought to build the one we now have. It’s so important for a community to have such a facility so I joined in the fundraising then and continue to do so.

“I’m fortunate to have several dear friends who are always happy to help me, along with my husband. Lots of people who are often not able to attend the party send donations, and my family also supports me in every way possible.”

Pat was one of the first to sign up to Winchester Hospice’s Tea @ 3 fundraising initiative in which the charity is asking local people, businesses and groups to come together to pause at 3pm on a chosen day to celebrate the hospice being part of the community and to help raise funds to support its care.

Jo Westerman, fundraising officer at Winchester Hospice said; “Tea and cake is integral to the hospice. Not a day goes by where we aren’t pouring comforting cuppas for our patients and their loved ones and there’s always a sweet treat on standby to keep our nurses going.

“With that in mind, what better way to help us fundraise for our care than raising a teacup to the hospice at 3pm to help support our care of patients.”
