Julie’s super snap puts her in first place in photo finish

IT’S a lovely photograph which truly captures caring on camera – and the super snap has now landed a prize for Winchester Hospice supporter Julie Luke.

The Capture Caring on Camera competition was run by Winchester Hospice during August, and helped to raise further awareness of the charity’s fundraising campaign to raise £3.7million to get the city’s hospice open in Summer 2021.

Julie’s picture of her three-year-old grand-daughter Amelia, with her great-grandad Peter, 85, is a wonderful family memento – and the framed photo will now be displayed in pride of place in Julie’s mothers’ home in Alresford after she was presented with the prize by Andy Laws, from competition sponsor Art Worthy Framing, in Alresford.

“I’m delighted to have won,” said 58-year-old Julie, who is a Winchester Hospice ambassador. “I was really pleased with the photograph, which I took on my iphone, and I’m chuffed that it was chosen as the winning photo. It’s a picture I will treasure and it looks great in the frame from Art Worthy Framing.”

Andy, of Art Worthy Framing added: “Well done Julie on taking this lovely picture. I was so pleased to sponsor the competition and support Winchester Hospice. A hospice for local people is so desperately needed, more so now than ever.”

The fundraising appeal has now reached the 90 per cent milestone – and The Big Push campaign is focusing on bringing in the final £370,000 to get the hospice open next year.

Winchester Hospice will be run by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT). Its palliative care team have been a driving force behind the ambitious project as they know how important it is to have a local hospice facility that will help, support and care for the people of Winchester and the surrounding area.

Winchester Hospice will be the hub for specialist palliative care, providing inpatient care for up to 10 patients, as well as a host of outpatient and community support for people in their own homes.
