Inner Wheel members help Winchester Hospice with great show of support

 A SIGNIFICANT show of support from generous Inner Wheel Club of Winchester members has delivered a boost to the Winchester Hospice fundraising campaign.

The Inner Wheel Club members provided the latest demonstration of their fundraising power by donating £2,500 to the £3.7million campaign that will get Winchester Hospice open in Summer 2021.

Maureen Chisnell, from The Inner Wheel Club of Winchester, said:  “The £2,500 represented money raised through various fundraising activities over the past 12 months, supplemented by contributions from individual Inner Wheel members.”

Nick Vaughan, Winchester Hospice fundraising appeal charity chair of trustees, said: “Thank you to the Inner Wheel Club members for their great support. Community backing like this has played a key role in helping us to pass the 90 per cent milestone as we seek to raise the £3.7m needed to get the hospice open.”

The Winchester club has been active in the local community since 1936 and currently has 30 members. Inner Wheel internationally is the largest women’s service organisation in the world with over 100,000 members supporting local communities in more than 100 countries.

Winchester Hospice will be run by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Its palliative care team have been a driving force behind the ambitious project as they know how important it is to have a local hospice facility that will help, support and care for the people of Winchester and the surrounding area.

Winchester Hospice will be the hub for specialist palliative care, providing inpatient care for up to 10 patients, as well as a host of outpatient and community support for people in their own homes.
