Recycling clothes and shoes will help Winchester Hospice

RECYCLING your unwanted clothes and shoes will raise funds for the Winchester Hospice campaign – that’s the message to HHFT colleagues.

In partnership with Bag It Up Group, a purple Winchester Hospice-branded recycling bank has been installed opposite Costa on the Royal Hampshire County Hospital site. The bank is for HHFT staff to recycle clothes and shoes in, but is not for the general public to use.

Malcolm Ace, HHFT chief financial officer, and HHFT palliative care clinical matron Maddy Thomson deposited the first bags of clothes and shoes in the new recycling bank.

Malcolm said: “I have had a good clear-out of old clothes and shoes and am delighted to be recycling them to help and support the Winchester Hospice Big Push campaign to raise the final 10 per cent of the £3.7million target needed to get the hospice open next Summer.”

Maddy added: “If you work at RHCH and want to have a good clear-out of unwanted clothes and shoes, then this a free and easy way to support Winchester Hospice. It is also good for the environment as the vast majority of items that are not resold are recycled into other useful materials.”

The recycling bank will be regularly serviced by the Bag It Up Group team. HHFT staff are asked not to leave bags if the bank is full – there is a helpline number to call on the banks – and if you want to read more about what happens to the items that are recycled, please click here .
