Local estate agent shows their purple side with support of local charity

A freelance estate agent from Winchester has announced it’s supporting a charity walk around the historic city centre.

Nony Kerr-Smiley, an agent with over 25 years’ experience selling property in and around Winchester, has chosen to support Winchester Hospice’s Purple Night Walk to help the charity raise funds for their care of local people.

Talking about her support of the hospice, Nony Kerr-Smiley said; “Sam and I have highly admired the work of the Winchester Hospice and have known many people who have benefited from the excellent care it provides to both those in need and their families. Running our own business has given us the opportunity to help more directly, and we are proud to be able to support this fabulous charity, both in direct donations and also in sponsoring specific events. The Purple Walk is a wonderful occasion for individuals and families of all ages to come together to raise funds for this incredible charity, whilst having fun walking through some of our ancient Cathedral city.”

The hospice opened nearly three years ago thanks to a large amount of charitable funding from local people which helped to refurbish one of the old hospital buildings, making it suitable to care for up to ten patients at a time. Since it opened, Winchester Hospice has cared for more than 1,000 people at its Burrell House site with many more cared for at home. Much of this has been made possible thanks to the generosity of the community, including local business.

Jo Westerman, Fundraising Manager at Winchester Hospice, said; “We’re delighted to have the support of Sam and Nony Kerr-Smiley for our Purple Night Walk. They’re fabulous supporters of ours, already donating a percentage of their fees to us each year and their further support of our charity walk is greatly appreciated. Working with local businesses like this enables us to make our events even better for those taking part, ensuring we raise as much as possible to help fund the essential care delivered by our nursing teams to local people at the hospice.”

Tickets are still available for the 6km charity walk on Saturday 5 October and are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The charity is also asking participants to raise at least £25 each in sponsorship which will go towards looking after the local people being cared for at the hospice.
