Golf seniors tee up support for Winchester Hospice
GENEROUS support from senior members of a local golf club has helped to boost the fundraising coffers at Winchester Hospice.
Francis Sheath, Captain of South Winchester Golf Club Seniors Section, presented a cheque for £3,912 to Mark Jones, Head of Charity at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT).
Francis said: “The money was raised mainly from The Seniors Open event, and Barclays Bank contributed over £600 of match funding.
“In addition, some members, when changing golf equipment, donated the proceeds of old trollies to the charity. Collections were also made at club dinners, and some members made their own generous contributions.”
Mark said: “Thank you so much to Francis and all the members of the South Winchester Golf Club Seniors Section for their generous support for Winchester Hospice – it is much appreciated, as is the match funding from Barclays Bank.
“Donations like this are welcome and vital as the HHFT Charity Team seeks to raise ongoing funding for Winchester Hospice. This is crucial to ensure that HHFT staff can deliver enhanced care and support to patients and their loved ones at, and from, Winchester Hospice.”
The hospice, which opened in September, was created after a successful £4.4million Winchester Hospice charity fundraising campaign enabled HHFT, which owns and runs the hospice, to transform the former Burrell House into a much-needed 10-bed facility.
Winchester Hospice will be home to the palliative care team and will provide inpatient care, a hub for specialist outpatient services and therapies, and at-home patient care within the community.
