Pub adds more cash to hospice charity pot
THE landlord and landlady of a city centre pub have made a further donation to its ongoing campaign to support Winchester Hospice.
Steve and June Robinson run the popular pub The Bakers Arms, in High Street, Winchester, and they have pledged to support the Winchester Hospice fundraising campaign for the 12 months to October 2021.
Sadly, the pub has been shut for much of the last couple of months since the latest COVID-19 lockdown restrictions were introduced, but Steve, June and their regulars still managed to get some fundraising done ahead of the restrictions starting.
Steve said: “We do a regular meat raffle draw and we are delighted to have raised £524. We look forward to reopening as soon as we are allowed to and we will then be able to continue our fundraising for the hospice.”
Steve and June got their fundraising off to a flying start when June took part in a sponsored head shave during last year’s August bank holiday weekend. By braving the shave, June raised more than £720.
June said: “We want to support a local charity and we know that local people are very passionate about the Winchester Hospice campaign.”
Steve added: “Craft Union, which owns The Bakers Arms and nearly 400 pubs around the country, are very keen to support charities, and they are delighted that we have chosen to support a local charity like the Winchester Hospice.
“A hospice is one of those places that you never want to have to go in but so many people need the help and support that it provides. A hospice helps and touches so many people. Our city deserves to have a hospice and we look forward to seeing the hospice open in 2021.”
